Origin, evolution, breeding, and omics of Apiaceae: a family of vegetables and medicinal plants

Abstract Many of the world’s most important vegetables and medicinal crops, including carrot, celery, coriander, fennel, cumin, belong to Apiaceae family. In this review, we summarize complex origins current state research on family, traditional molecular breeding practices, bioactive compounds, applications, nanotechnology, omics research. Numerous markers, regulatory factors, functional genes have been discovered, studied, applied improve vegetable crops in Apiaceae. addition, trends application are also briefly described, mining new metabolites using research, identifying genetic variants associated with agronomic traits by population genetics analysis GWAS, applying transformation, CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing system, nanotechnology. This review provides a reference for basic plants.
